PonPou is a digital media player sold in Chikakimu. The name PonPou is a Colli-language portmanteau of pon (one of two Colli words for "sound") and an abbreviation of the Colli word pamemou (colli word for "play"), lit. "sound player". Early models were audio-only (recording+playback), then other media formats were added, plus a low-quality camera and video recorder. More expensive models included higher-quality mics and cameras, and even a DAW.
There are promotional PonPou players for companies, known as PromoPou. These players can only play the media files pre-loaded by the company and are unhackable. Before you ask, Beso's tried. He's in the PromoPou dev team. He couldn't get custom files on a PromoPou. Some of these can update over a cellular connection to add new media to the device.
Notable PromoPous include:
BTN PonPou, a white PonPouTap! for MyLivingMachine (LMI, for those who are out of the loop) with multicolored stripes and the network's logo on the back. Media files on this device are songs from Borac Telenetwork programs, full versions of select RoboFriend interstitials, alongside full episodes of select BTN programming. This product was designed for an LMI, which is the main audience for BTN - the programs on BTN were made by AND for robots. However, it was given to a brain-swapped blob who lives in Bebo's body. Updates with an embedded SIM.
M-Head PonPou - PonPou audio-only player with M-Head jingles. Entire player is covered in a textured finish of the M-Head paw symbol. There are three known color variants, coral, green, and blue.
Although not a PromoPou, the MeraPou is a locked down PonPou for children. These PonPou models are childproofed and are a bit larger. This is the only PonPou model to not have ports except for a 3.5mm output.
This device does have more ports, but you must tear the device down to get access to most of the ports on the motherboard, making it inconvenient for most to use as their main PonPou to add or remove media. This device is based on PonPouTap!, but with a kid-friendly UI.
The MeraPou sits in a dock to charge. The player has a coil holder and a tinny speaker that can get somewhat loud. There are notable versions like the PromoPou:
MoiMeraPou - Plays most media files. Some files cannot be put on this device until you disable the parental lock. Multiple color variants. Custom silicone bumpers can be purchased as well.
Bryce's World PonPou - It's just a MeraPou that plays Bryce's World. All the episodes and songs from the show are here. The device updates with a cellular connection. There are a few color variants.
Abarunu PonPou, known as MyFirstLife PonPou in City Chikakimu and in Quronia. City+Quronian versions are pink. Mainland version is orange. The device, like some PromoPous and the Bryce's World PonPou, update via cellular connection.
Docks also exist for PonPou, like most real-life MP3 players. A notable dock is the Dokku-Pasugi, AKA Water-Dock (2014/2015). This official PonPou dock is based on real-life water speakers. This dock was one of Passo's first crushes as her friend had one and was jealous of it.
The PonPou Library is a storefront in Chikakimu where users can add new media to a PonPou. A "web" version exists where the user connects their PonPou to their computer. A physical version exists where the user can find a kiosk and add new songs to the device that way.
